We provide independent Carrier service in Austin for every major product line Carrier makes, from single-stage Comfort 13 condensers to fully modulating Infinity 59MN7 gas furnaces. Our technicians have been working on Carrier equipment in Austin homes for over a decade, which means we know how these systems actually fail here: hard-water heat exchangers, undersized attics pushing blower motors past their limits, and summer brownouts that punish condenser electronics. Cold Harbour Heating and Air Austin is an independent Carrier service provider, not an authorized Carrier dealer. We don’t answer to a manufacturer’s sales quota. We answer to you, the homeowner, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to every Carrier repair we make. If your Carrier system is acting up, call (361) 204-1605 and a live person picks up.
Why Trust Cold Harbour Heating and Air Austin for Your Carrier HVAC?
Victor Mancini, our owner and lead technician, learned the trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and has spent more than ten years keeping Austin homes cool through the punishing stretch from June to September. He has rebuilt Carrier compressors, retrofitted R-410A to R-454B on 38MURA mini splits, and diagnosed two-stage furnace gas-valve oscillation on Austin’s mineral-heavy water supply. That kind of depth doesn’t come from a one-day brand training seminar. It comes from showing up to countless homes where a Carrier system has failed in a very specific way and figuring out the root cause, not just clearing the fault code and hoping it holds. We also write our guarantee down before we leave: if a repair fails inside 365 days, we return and correct it at no charge. Every Carrier repair gets that in writing.

Common Carrier HVAC Problems We Fix in Austin
- Infinity AB control board lockouts (5-minute fault). On Infinity 24VNA0 and 25VNA0 variable-speed systems, we often see the AB control board throwing a 5-minute lockout fault. The usual culprit is blower-motor over-current caused by high-MERV filter pressure drop. A MERV 13 filter in a tight duct system can choke airflow enough that the variable-speed blower pulls more amps than the board expects, and the board shuts the system down as a protective measure. We check static pressure and filter fit before replacing any electronics.
- Performance 17 high-stage TXV hunting and coil freezing. The Performance 17 24ACB7 and 24TPA7 two-stage units use a thermal expansion valve (TXV, the device that meters refrigerant into the evaporator coil). When refrigerant charge is even slightly low, the TXV can overfeed in high-stage, freeze the slab coil, and then cycle the system off on low-pressure. In Austin’s high-humidity weeks, that freeze-thaw cycle also stresses the coil fins. We vacuum the system, weigh the charge to factory spec, and test in both stages before calling it done.
- Comfort 13/14 condenser fan motor seizure. The single-stage Comfort 13 and 14 lines (24SCA4, 25SCA4) are workhorses, but their condenser fan motors don’t tolerate voltage spikes well. Austin summer brownouts create LRA spikes (locked-rotor amperage, the surge when a motor tries to start under load) that can cook the windings over repeated events. The motor seizes, the condenser overheats, and the compressor follows if it’s not addressed. We stock compatible motors and capacitors locally for quick turnaround.
- Infinity 59MN7 inducer proving-switch flutter. This modulating gas furnace is popular in Austin’s newer suburban homes, but its inducer proving switch can flutter when condensate backs up in the drain line during high-humidity stretches. The furnace fires, the switch reads incorrectly, and the ignition locks out. It’s rarely the switch itself. We clear the condensate line, check the drain pitch, and only replace the switch if it tests bad.
- Comfort 13/14 filter driers plugging on older systems. On Carrier Comfort units that are 8 to 12 years old, we find plugged filter driers more often than any other sealed-system issue. Austin’s heat cycles put a lot of thermal stress on compressors, and small amounts of debris or moisture in the system eventually clog the drier. Symptoms are a warm house, high head pressure, and a condenser that’s working harder than it should. We recover the refrigerant, replace the drier, and recharge to spec.
Carrier Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach
For Carrier systems under 10 years old, we install OEM compressors, control boards, and variable-speed motors. Those components are tightly integrated into the Infinity and Performance control ecosystems, and aftermarket electronics often don’t speak the same language. For older systems, particularly Comfort 13/14 units past their 10th birthday, we use NATE-certified aftermarket capacitors, contactors, and pressure switches sourced from Texas supply houses. We might be able to sell you a cheaper no-name capacitor, but we won’t. The $40 savings isn’t worth a call-back in August. We also have a hard rule we apply honestly: we never quote a sealed-system repair over $1,200 on a Comfort 13/14 unit past its 12th birthday. At that point, a Performance 17 replacement is the smarter money. Call (361) 204-1605 if you want an honest read on where your Carrier system stands.
Our Carrier Service Process – Step by Step
- 1
Diagnosis. We start with a written diagnosis. That means we show up in the window we gave you, put a manifold on the system, read the fault history from the control board, and check static pressure. On an Infinity system, we pull the AB board’s fault log and correlate it with what the system is doing right now, not just what it did last week.
- 2
Repair or install. We hand you a written price before any work begins. If it’s a repair, we explain the failed part, why it failed, and what we’re doing to keep it from failing again. If it’s a replacement, we show you the load calculation numbers so the new Carrier unit actually matches your house.
- 3
Test. After the repair or install, we run the system through its stages. On a two-stage or variable-speed Carrier, that means testing in both low and high stage. On a 59MN7 furnace, we verify flame signal, inducer operation, and proper drain flow before we pack up.
- 4
Warranty. Before we leave, you get the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the repair fails inside a year, we come back at no charge. No fine print, no pro-rated parts, no argument.
Carrier Products We Service & Install in Austin
We work on the full Carrier residential lineup that we see in Austin homes every week: the Infinity 24VNA0 and 25VNA0 variable-speed heat pumps, the Performance 17 24ACB7 and 24TPA7 two-stage AC and heat pumps, and the Comfort 13/14 24SCA4 and 25SCA4 single-stage systems. On the furnace side, that’s the Infinity 59MN7 modulating and 59TN6 two-stage gas furnaces. For mini split work, the 38MURA series is common in Austin’s older central homes where ductwork is limited, though we also handle Carrier service in Round Rock for homes with similar layouts. We keep common Carrier capacitors, contactors, pressure switches, and fan motors stocked locally so a repair doesn’t wait on a freight truck from Dallas.

Carrier is the focus of this page, but our technicians are trained on nine major residential HVAC brands: Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York, Daikin, Bryant, and American Standard alongside Carrier. We are not a single-brand shop. Whatever you already have in the home, the technician who shows up can work on it.
FAQs – Carrier HVAC Service in Austin
No. We are an independent Carrier service provider. We are not affiliated with or authorized by Carrier Corporation. That independence matters because our loyalty is to the homeowner, not to a manufacturer’s sales program. Every Carrier repair we make is backed by our own written 365-Day Done Right Promise, not by a manufacturer’s goodwill.
For Carrier systems under 10 years old, we use OEM compressors, control boards, and variable-speed motors. Those parts are too integrated into the system’s control logic to risk aftermarket substitutions. For older systems, we use NATE-certified aftermarket capacitors, contactors, and pressure switches from Texas supply houses. We’ll tell you which part goes where and why before we install it.
Most Carrier repairs are completed in a single visit. A compressor replacement on a Performance 17 is a half-day job. A condenser fan motor on a Comfort 14 is an hour. A full AC installation is a day, sometimes two if we’re also addressing duct or electrical work. When we set the window, we keep it. Call (361) 204-1605 and we’ll give you a real arrival window for your specific job.
We service and install the Carrier residential lines most common in Austin and nearby areas, including Carrier in Pflugerville: Infinity 24VNA0 and 25VNA0 variable-speed heat pumps, Performance 17 24ACB7 and 24TPA7 two-stage units, Comfort 13/14 24SCA4 and 25SCA4 single-stage systems, the Infinity 59MN7 modulating and 59TN6 two-stage gas furnaces, and the 38MURA mini split series.
No. Using an independent contractor does not void your Carrier factory warranty. Carrier’s written warranty remains valid as long as the service work is performed by a licensed HVAC contractor and the installation or repair follows the manufacturer’s published specifications. We follow those specs. We know exactly where the line is between warranty-eligible work and work that is not.
Fault code 31 on a Carrier Infinity system is a high-pressure lockout. It usually happens when the outdoor unit can’t reject heat fast enough, often because the condenser coil is dirty or the outdoor fan is failing, but it can also be triggered by a TXV overfeeding in high-stage. In Austin’s summer heat, a marginal coil gets pushed over the edge quickly, so prompt AC Repair matters. Call us before you reset the breaker a third time; repeated lockouts can damage the compressor. Reach us at (361) 204-1605.
No, and we won’t pretend otherwise. R-454B is not a drop-in replacement for R-22. The oils, pressures, and seal materials are different, and a legitimate conversion requires replacing the compressor, TXV, and much of the sealed system. On a Comfort 13 that’s 12 or more years old, that work exceeds the value of the unit. We’ll recommend a Performance 17 replacement and give you a written fixed price before any work begins.
In Austin’s humid winter weeks, a Performance 17 heat pump defrosting every 30 minutes is not normal. The most common cause is a failing defrost thermostat or a low refrigerant charge that’s causing the coil to frost too quickly. We test the defrost sensor, check the charge, and replace only what’s actually failed. The fix is usually a single visit.
It can, especially if the filter is too thick for the slot or the duct system is already restrictive. A MERV 13 filter adds significant pressure drop, and on a variable-speed Infinity blower, that means higher amp draw and more heat on the motor windings. We pulled a 25VNA036 in Circle C last July where a 1-inch MERV 13 had been jammed into a 2-inch slot. The fix was a new filter rack and a factory-spec charge, not a new motor. Use the filter your system was designed for, and Austin’s dusty air won’t kill your blower.
In our experience, the two-second ignition then shutdown on a 59MN7 is almost always a flame-proving issue. The flame sensor is dirty, or the burner isn’t grounding well through the flame because of corrosion. In Austin’s humid winters, that corrosion builds up faster than you’d expect. We clean the sensor, check the ground path, and if the problem returns, we test the gas valve modulation. Call (361) 204-1605 and we’ll walk through what you’re seeing before we even schedule the visit.
